2026-01-31 17:07:09 +13:00 | 31 commits to main since this releaseNebula Browser has reached a stable milestone and is now transitioning into maintenance mode.
Nebula was originally created with a very specific goal: to be a controller-first browser designed to live inside the Steam ecosystem, particularly for Steam Deck and SteamOS users who wanted a web experience without relying on desktop mode, keyboards, or external workarounds.
During the Steam review process, Valve determined that Nebula does not fit within Steam’s allowed categories for non-game software. As a result, the application could not be distributed on the Steam Store.
At the time, Steam distribution was considered a core pillar of the project, and development was paused as the original vision could no longer be fulfilled in its intended form.
Since then, community feedback has shown interest in Nebula beyond Steam alone, particularly in its input model, controller navigation, and keyboard-driven browsing experience. Because of this, Nebula is no longer considered "ended", but instead enters a low-pressure maintenance phase.
Active, full-time development has concluded, but the project remains available and may receive occasional updates or refinements when time and interest allow.
What this release represents

Thank you
Thank you to everyone who followed Nebula, wishlisted it, tested builds, shared feedback, or supported the idea.
Nebula reached thousands of people and demonstrated genuine interest in better controller-first and alternative-input software experiences.
While Nebula is no longer a primary project, the ideas, lessons, and experience gained from building it will continue to influence future work.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
